Job Description
In order to port over the next billion people into a secure and open financial system, you’re going to need a network of applications that connect to the fiat world Wyre’s APIs make that happen.
Our mission is to empower fintech projects to execute on their vision by offering them secure access to the largest financial network in the world (the Wyre Network).
To accomplish this mission, we’ve built a simple set of tools that allows fintech projects to materialize their visions. (1) Our instant Fiat-to-Crypto Checkout gateway is now being used by hundreds of applications (ie. MetaMask, Opera, BRD) to offer the best way to convert card payments into crypto, and (2) our flexible APIs (Transfers API, Custody API, Users API) allow projects to build e-wallets, merchant processing services, and money transfer platforms from the ground up.
We focus on compliance, licensing, regulatory, liquidity and payment processing aspects so our partners can do what they do best: create amazing tools on the blockchain.
As part of Wyre’s global expansion, we’re looking for an awesome individual to anchor our new European office in Estonia. Your core mission will be to build robust AML/KYC controls and processes, manage official requirements for the new corporate entity, and stay at the forefront of all European regulations relevant to Wyre's business lines. Your industry knowledge and innovative drive will propel Wyre to the next level!
This role will report to the VP of Global Compliance.
Its responsibilities are divided into two parts:
- Ensure alignment of Wyre’s global compliance policies with the new Estonian entity
- Develop and implement KYC/AML procedures specific to the regulations of Estonia and the EU
- Perform AML screening (background checks, KYC checks, sanctions checks) on individual and business customers
- Represent the Estonian entity in all European regulatory inquiries
- Serve as a resource to our business and product, with a focus on regulatory strategy and engagement
- Ensure alignment of Wyre’s global corporate structure with the new Estonian entity
- Serve on the Board of Directors of the Estonian entity and document its proceedings
- Represent the Estonian entity through the government registration and licensing process, and keep all government filings up-to-date thereafter
- Identify and onboard strategic accounts with other financial institutions
Requirements
- 5+ years in regulatory compliance
- Experience working with or in financial institutions such as banks, payment firms, cryptocurrency-related companies or similar
- Experience performing AML customer screening (background checks, KYC checks, sanctions checks)
- Experience developing and implementing internal KYC/AML/Regulatory policies
- Experience working with the Estonian FIU and other local government agencies
- Strong knowledge of the rules and regulations for financial companies in Estonia and the EU
- Able to work independently or in teams with a high degree of accountability
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and analytical skills
- Fluent in English and Estonian
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Legal, Criminal Justice or a comparable field, or equivalent work experience
- Physically located and legally authorized to work in Estonia
